No More Grey Wednesdays

The No More Grey Wednesdays (NMGWs) scheme was launched by Health Education North West (HENW) to minimise the disorientation felt by Trainees when they start work in another department - with a new team, new patients and an overall different way of doing things.

By giving you a chance to meet the team/patients and understand your role/responsibilities, this scheme has proven to benefit patient safety, increase trainee confidence and maintain hospital flow.

The best part about this scheme is that you’re paired with a fellow trainee who is currently in that department (the F1 who is currently doing the job you will rotate into).  Who better to give you a full account of the ins and outs of daily working life?

How does it work?

You need to arrange the day.

·         The shadowing should be scheduled for the last month (preferably last two weeks) of your current placement i.e. November or March.

·         The onus lies with the incoming trainee to contact their predecessor and arrange a date to shadow them

·         As this shadowing will be scheduled in work time on a Normal Working Day, arrange release and attendance with the Clinical Supervisors/Rota Co-ordinator in each department

There is no need to do anything about this right now however you might want to start planning this now as many of you like to take annual leave towards the end of your placement.
